New species of orchid for BC
Curtis Bjork and Terry McIntosh report a new species of Spiranthes for BC and Canada--Spiranthes diluvialis or Ute ladies' tresses--in the south Okanagan. This species is similar to Spiranthes romanzoffiana (hooded ladies' tresses), but lacks the "hood" of S. romanzoffiana. We will be adding this species to E-Flora, and it has been added to the flora of the province. Look for it in wet meadows in the south Okanagan, and perhaps elsewhere in the southern edge of the province. A second new population of this species is also reported, from Mahoney Lake (thanks to this dicovery by Greta and Ole Westby from Willowbrook). Read more about this discovery in BEN.

Additional new species for BC also reported by Curtis and Terry are:
Cirsium flodmanii (Rydb.) Arthur - Asteraceae
Crypsis alopecuroides (Piller & Mitterp.) Schrad. ( Poaceae)
Eleocharis geniculata (L.) Roemer & Schultes (Cyperaceae)
Limosella acaulis Sessé & Mocino (Scrophulariaceae)
Viola adunca Sm. var. cascadensis (Baker) C.L. Hitch (Violaceae)
Many new species for BC have also been reported by Frank Lomer, and will be reflected in updates to the BC flora, and in E-Flora.
