The course offers a comprehensive introduction to environmental science and provides the basis for interpreting your natural surroundings and environmental change. The material straddles the boundaries between the atmospheric, earth, and life sciences, emphasizing the key processes at or near the earth’s surface. As biogeoscientists, we are concerned with the study of the habitable environment. This requires examining both present-day conditions and long-term evolution of the environment and the atmosphere.

GEOB 102 is a 3.0 credit, general science course fulfilling science requirements of the Faculties of Arts and Education at UBC. In addition, it is a pre-requisite for a number of other courses offered in Geographic Biogeosciences and Geography. Refer to the calendar or to booklets describing the B.A. and B.Sc. programs, obtainable from the Geography Office, Room 217 or the Geography Web Site. Ask for the “Guide to Geography”. If you need further details, talk with your instructor or with the department undergraduate advisors for Science and Arts.
