Translink currently is running a public consultation on the development of a rapid transit line that would connect the University of British Columbia to the existing rapid transit line in Vancouver, Canada, the Skytrain. This proposed line would run down the Broadway corridor connecting UBC to the existing Main Street Skytrain station , or one of Vancouver's busiest stations, Broadway Stations. Translink has worked in multiple options for this rapid transit line including express buses, light rail, and the rapid rail transit option of the Skytrain as well as combinations of these transit options. This GIS project will be approaching the idea of adding a new Skytrain line only. We will be comparing maps and information made available by Translink to maps we have created that look at the shortest distance, the cheapest distance, and routes that allow for access to community amenities (community centers and libraries) from Main Street Skytrain station, Broadway Skytrain station, and Nanaimo Skytrain station. Our hope is that this analysis will be able to show the route that is most beneficial to the users, developers, and the taxpayers behind this new transit line.
