Least Cost Path

  1. Establish and isolate Nanaimo Skytrain Station from the existing Expo Line Skytrain data retrieved from the City of Vancouver.
  2. Locate and establish point for University of British Columbia by creating a new feature class in the established database.
  3. Identify land use codes and apply land friction costs through the attribute table after adding a new field.
  4. Convert the newly land use polygon with land friction costs into a raster dataset with the Conversion/To Raster in ArcToolBox.
  5. Within ArcToolBox uses the SpatialAnalystTool/Cost Distance and have UBC as the source data and our newly created raster land cost file as the cost raster.
  6. With new distance raster, return back to the SpatialAnalystTool and use the Distance Tool with Nanaimo Skytrain Station as the destination. The best_ single path type was selected to create a raster least cost path.
  7. With this line, conversion with the ArcToolBox From Raster/To Polyline for a line that is easier to read by simplifying it into a smooth polyline.

Least Cost Community Analysis

  1. After locating the shape file for the libraries and community centers in Metro Vancouver, two sets of 800m radius buffers were created.
  2. The newly least cost line was intersected with the each buffer set to find out which libraries and community centers the Skytrain would pass through.

Shortest Path

  1. Establish and isolate Nanaimo Skytrain Station from the existing Expo Line Skytrain data retrieved from the City of Vancouver.
  2. Locate and establish point for University of British Columbia by creating a new feature class in the established database.
  3. Create a new line feature by using the editor in available in ArcGIS, and drawing a straight line directly from Nanaimo Skytrain Station to University of British Columbia.

Shortest Path Community Analysis

  1. After locating the shape file for the libraries and community centers in Metro Vancouver, two sets of 800m radius buffers were created.
  2. The newly least cost line was intersected with the each buffer set to find out which libraries and community centers the Skytrain would pass through.
