Abstract

The goal of this study is to compare landscapes with different Quaternary histories, specifically glaciated vs non-glaciated environments, using slope-area plots. The glaciated landscape is near Pemberton BC and the non-glaciated study area is in Washington. The slope-area plots show different geomorphic process domains, which can then be compared to understand the landscapes. A GIS analysis was done using ArcGIS, Matlab, and Microsoft Excel. The results confirm that the two landscapes are very different. BC shows a topographic anisotropy caused by glacial carving of deep U-shaped valleys, which causes the slope-area plots to be quite scattered. Washington shows no anisotropy and the plots are more precise.
