Tutorial: Copying Images from Idrisi into a Word Document

In producing reports you often need to include output from one program in another. When working with Idrisi and Microsoft Word, there is a simple way of transferring the images over into a Word document.

So, assuming that you have been working in Idrisi and have created some images that you would like to incorporate into your lab report, follow these steps:

  1. Open a Word document.
  2. Return to Idrisi, and select the image you wish to transfer.
  3. Click on Save (in Composer)
    1. Save Composition
      1. Copy to Clipboard
  4. Go back to your Word document, right-mouse click and select Paste.
  5. Double-click on the image to bring up Picture Tools.

You can resize the images, add borders, clip the images, etc. An example of what you can accomplish can be found here. (Note that to produce the images with the title embedded in the image, as presented in the attached Word document, I used the Fit Map Window to Layer Frame button Fit Map Window to Layer Frame. In order to produce the legend, I transferred over a 'complete image and then cropped it so that only the legend was visible.)

You can also use this methodology to save images to other formats (such as a BMP file) that can be opened by other programs or inserted into an HTML document.
