Passive Satellite-based Sensors

Many remote sensing projects make use of imagery collected from passive satellite-based sensors such as Landsat or SPOT. However, there are a wide variety of sensors available, and the imagery they produce serves a wide variety of purposes, and are available in a wide range of spatial, spectral and temporal resolutions. I'll review some of those issues in today's lecture.

A good overview of the Landsat program., and here is a brief history of the program.

Satellite Imaging Corp. provides a comprehensive overview of a number of satellite remote sensing systems, in particular those with high resolution sensors.

A discussion of the importance of satellite constellations (a concept, although not discussed in class, that you should become familiar with).
