Map use discussion writing assignment

Approximately 300 words

In the lecture, we discussed Board's call to cartographers in 1978 to determine map reading tasks performed by map uses; these activities in turn inform cartographers on map design to help users perform these tasks.

Thirty years later, a special edition of the Cartographic Journal was published on "Use and Users". Summarize the guest editorial (written by Van Elzakker, C. et al, 2008, "Editorial Caring for the Users" Cartographic Journal 45/2 P 84-86), and reflect on the relevance today of map users, comparing Board's narrow definition of map users to today's map users. In your reflection, pick one of the following articles in this special edition of the journal as supporting evidence to your argument:

1. Kramers Erik. "Interaction with Maps on the internet - A User Centred Design Approach for the Atlas of Canada" Cartographic Journal 45/2

or

2. Perkins Chris. "Cultures of Map Use" Cartographic Journal 45/2
