Abstract

This study uses a euclidean distance equation, called the Buffer by Rise (BBR) method, to model the floodplain of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers at their confluence in Prince George BC. The floodplain delineated by the BBR method is then compared to the floodplain previously mapped by the BC Ministry of Environment Water Stewardship Division. It is found that the method mapped the floodplain accurately at the confluence of the rivers, but overestimated the extent of the floodplain in the headwaters.
