In an age where transit is an important factor in city planning and development of a sustainable and ecologically friendly city, the general public has been reluctant to use mass transit. In Vancouver, the development of a public transit system has been plagued by financial limitations and interest in private automobiles. The Local Index of Transit Availability provides a way to examine the ease of access that the population has to transit through consideration of capacity, frequency, and service. The LITA is employed here to determine the areas of strength and weakness of accessibility for Vancouver’s transit system. The analysis reveals that the areas with the strongest scores are the downtown core, the Broadway corridor, and areas surrounding the Skytrain line.
