Please join us on November 20 3:30 – 4:30 pm in GEOG room 229 for a colloquium with Lakhbir Jassal.
A graduate student of the University of British Columbia and University of Edinburgh, Lakhbir recently completed her doctoral study. Lakhbir is a necrogeographer and her research foci remain grounded in the cultural and political geographies of death, dying and ‘disposal’. Her research revolves around necrogeographies and expands to other areas like migration and mobilities, ritual systems and indigenous cosmologies, rural cultures, ‘development’, culture, justice, and gender. She plans to continue her work of overcoming perceived negativity of death and bringing a rich and complex funeral industry out from behind the shroud.
