Tuition

Effective January 1, 2008, incoming PhD students will no longer receive the PhD Tuition Fee Award. However, all international PhD students starting in/after January 2008 will receive the International Partial Tuition Scholarship; For more information, visit https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/international-tuition-award.

PhD Students

All students are considered full-time students and are assessed tuition fees according to the UBC Academic Calendar.

MA/MSc Students

All students are automatically assessed tuition fees according to full-time study according to the UBC Academic Calendar.

Part-time students

Students who wish to be classified as part-time must obtain approval from the Graduate Advisor and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies prior to the beginning of the first term of the program (i.e., prior to the commencement of the degree program) in which fees are first assessed.

Students classified as part-time are advised that:

  • they are not eligible to receive interest-free status government loans, University fellowships or scholarships;
  • they are not eligible for teaching assistantships, research assistantships, student housing, or assigned desk space at the University; and
  • the five-year maximum time allowed for the masters program also applies to part-time students.
