John Gallant, Visiting ScientistDigital Elevation Models and Geomorphometry B. Eng, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology; Ph.D. (1998), Australian National University "I work on the representation of landforms and landscapes using digital elevation models. My research covers improvements in DEM quality and the extraction of information from DEMs relevant to water resources, soil mapping, geomorphology and ecology. I recently led the development and release of a series of 30 m resolution DEMs for all of Australia based on the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission data. I am interested in developing better methods for deriving landform information from DEMs that is relevant to geomorphic processes and soil evolution, as well as improving the theoretical foundations for geomorphometry (terrain analysis) methods."
