Our research group works on interactions between land-surfaces and the atmosphere, and we focus primarily on cities and managed forests. We study flow, turbulence and exchange processes in urban and forest canopies. Our goal is to develop new methods and tools to quantify, analyze and model the exchange of greenhouse-gases, energy, radiation, and water between the canopy layer and the atmosphere. This will be of use to a number of practical applications such as sustainable design and operation of buildings, the assessment of renewable energy potential, management of forests, safety, air pollution, weather forecasting and climate projections.
