On April 2, 2006, 400 magnetically-tagged tracers stones were placed in Fishtrap Creek. Tracers ranged in size from 22-90 mm. The stones were divided into four heterogeneous groups (A,B,C,D) and were placed at the launch lines labeled on figure 1. The stones were then recovered in August documenting distance traveled, burial depth, and depositional morphology (72% recovery).
Tracers of all sizes traveled long distances (up to 530 m). Mean travel distance for each group was several times greater than the pool to bar spacing. Travel distance and burial depth appears to be highly dependent on the proximity to, and the stability of, the closest depositional area.
