I will be on leave from Sept. 08 to Aug. 09, and therefore I will not be teaching any of my courses listed below.

Geography 376 -- Advanced topics in GIS
Geography 471 -- Applied GIS in conservation biology, health geography and crime analysis
Geography 570 -- GIS Graduate Seminar

Other related courses taught in the Department of Geography:

Geography 270 -- Introduction to GIS
Geography 372 -- Cartography
Geography 472 -- Advanced Cartography

ADVANCED GIS COURSE:  Geography 471

Applied GIS: Using your knowledge:  In this course, we examine the application of GIScience in both the social and physical sciences, and explore the overlap in methodologies.

This is achieved by specific investigations in:

• GIS and  crime analysis
• GIS and landscape ecology
    • GIS and health geography

Topics that are covered include:  point pattern “hot spot” analysis, the use of census data, scale and hierarchy theory, understanding landscape metrics, linking remote sensing and GIS, and spatial clustering of events. Issues such as scale, data quality and confidentiality will be highlighted.

This course will be important to those with an interest in GIScience and spatial analysis, and to students and researchers in fields where space is considered an important explanatory element, including landscape ecology, conservation biology, forestry, geography, health, archaeology, planning and criminology.
