The first step towards solving global challenges like climate change is education. I actively work to facilitate a public dialogue on climate change, coral reefs and related subjects through popular writings and public
seminars at museums, science centres, schools, places of worship, teachers' retreats and other community gatherings.
As I've told thousands of students:
"Like it or not, our lives will be governed in many ways by the impacts of climate change and by the efforts to slow climate change. Whatever your profession, whatever your place in society, you will be a part of this. You and I didn't cause this problem. But it will be up to us -- my generation and your generation -- to solve the problem. What do you want to do?"
