“I use scaled physical models to study alluvial fan evolution and morphodynamics. At present, I am interested in the role of variability; how does the magnitude and frequency of variation in inputs (flow and sediment feed rates) affect fan development? Previously, I have examined the decadal-scale dynamics of tributary-junction alluvial fans, and quantified the impacts of landslides and gully complexes on rivers in New Zealand.”
